Mr. DeLuca was a fixture at the Cancun Clipper club. It was always interesting, educational and/or entertaining to listen to his stories and opinions, no matter the topic, in his strong and gravelly voice. In particular, one afternoon with a group at Ray’s Palapa restaurant Mr. DeLuca was holding court with a group of Clipper “February Family” members with Mr. DeLuca discussing his WWII experiences. Mr. DeLuca recalled the horrific battles he endured on Iwo Jima and described how he kept himself steady in his foxhole by reciting the full version of “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by poet Lord Alfred Tennyson-ALL 55 lines. Mr. DeLuca spoke in powerful emphatic and visceral tones with rapt attention by those present. Due to its length, I will not include the full poem here, rather, a short introductory line followed by a source URL for anyone interested in reading the entire poem he recited. I will never forget that episode or Mr. DeLuca. RIP Mr.DeLuca, with all due respect, Mark Kolp.
Half a League, Half a League,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

The Meyer family is deeply saddened by the news of William/Bill Delcua. This is a picture from a visit that we were thankful to have with Bill. Left to right is, Thomas Meyer Jr, Robert Meyer a fellow marine that shared an unbreakable bond, myself Richard William Meyer named after Bill, Thomas Meyer son of Bill's sister Antoinette/Toni DeLuca Meyer and Bill Deluca. Although our interactions were limited, we all looked up to Bill as the patriarch. He was an intellectual man who loved his family to no end. He was the light of his sisters eyes! My grandmother spoke about him in the highest regards almost daily, she did everything in her power to make sure he was known and a large influence on our family. Bill lived a long life with a loving family surrounding him! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. Love Tom, Thomas jr , Heather, Robert and Richard Meyer

I will always cherish my memories of my life “through the hole in the hedge”. The DeLuca house was loud, busy, fun, entertaining….filled with loving chaos! I was treated as part of the family and not simply a neighbor. My love for the entire family will last forever.
I am so sorry for your loss.

A truly remarkable man, Bill DeLuca also had a very sharp wit. In addition to his numerous intellectual writings, he wrote humorous parables that were witty social commentaries, and created moments when an insightful funny comment would delight many of his listeners. He was also a champion and thorough connoisseur of lobster.
