Obituary of Mary I. Chipoletti
Mary Irene Chipoletti (née Milone), a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully at home with her sons by her side on Monday, June 12, 2023. She was 98 and just two months shy of her 99th birthday.
Mary was born in Netcong on August 12, 1924, to the late Paul and Orsola Milone. She grew up in a large, close-knit family of eight children.
Mary was introduced to her beloved husband, the late Michael John Chipoletti, through Michael’s sister with whom Mary worked at Dover Handbag Company in Netcong. The couple married in 1946 and moved to Madison soon after to raise their family. They first lived above the family delicatessen, Chippy’s, before settling in their home on Dean Street.
Mary also worked in Madison at H.P. Higgs Company for several years, but her focus was being an incredible wife, mother, and later, grandmother. She had strong Italian roots and believed in family values and faith, which she instilled in her children. She and Michael were longtime parishioners of St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison.
Mary valued a simple life. She doted on her family, especially her granddaughters, and loved cooking traditional Italian meals for them. She also enjoyed crocheting, canasta, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.
Mary’s family will deeply miss her strong and vital spirit, but they take great comfort in knowing she is at peace.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Michael John Chipoletti in 2016; her brothers Joseph, Anthony, and Paul Milone; and her sisters Margaret DiBernardo, Andrella Carle, and Theresa Calvert.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Michael F. Chipoletti and Richard R. Chipoletti and beloved daughter-in-law Miriam Chipoletti; two cherished granddaughters, Ashley Chipoletti and Megan Bittar and her husband Allan; three great-grandchildren, Sienna, Sebastian, and Roman; her beloved sister, Virginia Gaudioso, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Mary held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, prior to a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison. Those who wish may attend the mass virtually by visiting www.svmnj.org.
Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
