I first met John in 2013, when I became the Trail Supervisor in Sterling Forest. I found him, right off the bat, to be a straightforward, thoughtful individual, dedicated to his volunteer work with the Trail Conference. He was always available for consultation, helping me numerous times to learn the politics and procedures of both the NYS Parks and the Trail Conference. Both being retired Mechanical Engineers, we "spoke" the same language and approached problem solving in parallel ways. John became a solid friend over the years. He was a large presence, and I will miss him greatly. Condolences from Rochelle and me, to Mary and family.
