Obituary of Domenica D'Addio

Domenica D’Addio (née DiMatteo), a longtime Madison and Florham Park resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024. She was 73.

Domenica leaves behind her loving children, Gina Fischer (Steven), Lisa Shindle, and Alfredo D’Addio (Katherine); her cherished grandchildren, Peter, Kyle, Kristen, Alex, Enzo, Kelsey, and Lia; Her brothers Luigi, Tony, and Pietro; her sisters Gracie, Elisa, Anna, and Francesca; and the DiMatteo, Pascarella, De Luca, and Vigliotti families and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vincenzo “Viny” D’Addio in 2015, and her brothers Filippo and Vincenzo.

Domenica was born in Cervino, Italy on May 5, 1950 to the late Luigi and Filomena DiMatteo (née Vigliotti). She first came to the United States with her sister in 1966 at the age of 16 during Christmas time. She returned to Italy briefly to marry her husband Viny before the couple came to the United States to settle permanently. They first settled in Newark in 1968 where Domenica took work at Calendra’s Bakery, solidifying her love for cooking and baking, then made their way to Madison and later Florham Park.

While her children were growing up, Domenica worked in her husband Viny’s tailor shop as a seamstress and bookkeeper. She then became a teacher’s aide at Torey J. Sabatini school in Madison. She subsequently continued her teaching carrier at the Allegro School where she worked with special needs children. Upon her retirement from the school system, Domenica became a cashier at the Florham Park CVS.

Family and togetherness meant the world to Domenica. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved to entertain. Domenica loved to cook Italian specialties, like homemade pastas, and desserts. She also loved gardening, fishing, and clamming.

Domenica was a warm and friendly person who made friends everywhere she went. She was a fixture in her community and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the memorial visitation for Domenica on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. memorial service held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.

Entombment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
