Obituary of Mitchell D. Rubin
Mitchell Donald Rubin, raised in Queens and a longtime resident of New Jersey, passed away on May 10, 2024 at age 81.
Mitch graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Queens College and obtained his JD and Tax LLM from NYU Law. He practiced law for decades in AT&T’s tax department, working particularly long hours during the company's divestment period in the early 80’s.
Mitch was an avid fan of the arts - most notably theater, music and modern art - and was deeply knowledgeable regarding a wide variety of subjects. Among other topics, he loved to expound on world history, religion and movies. He was deeply involved with his Jewish heritage and the LGBTQ+ community of New Jersey, and with family and friends through activities like his valued book club.
After several lengthy hospitalizations in recent years, Mitch would often share the unsolicited advice “don’t get old.” Well, he did, and we’re glad.
Mitch was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Andre, and his brother, Herbert. He is survived by his brother Stuart, his two children, David Rubin and Jessie Van Arman (nee Rubin), children-in-law, Shannon and Darius, and his grandson Avery along with many close friends and community.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a memorial visitation for Mitch on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a 1:00 PM Celebration of Life Service held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested charitable contributions be made in Mitch's name to the American Stroke Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
