Obituary of Anthony J. Giannone, Sr.
Anthony “Tony” J. Giannone, Sr., 89, of Madison, N.J. passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28th, 2024 at Chatham Hills Care Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis C. Giannone and father of his four boys.
Tony was a lifelong resident of Madison, N.J. He was the son of the late John and Carmella Giannone. Tony, upon graduating from Madison High School, continued on advancing in the trade of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning with a technical education from Lincoln Technical Institute. His work history included working as a HVAC mechanic for Ciba Geigy for 45 years among numerous side jobs that included being a custodian for 50+ years at St. Vincent’s Church. He could also be found serving a hot cup of coffee and a buttered roll at C&J’s Deli in Madison, N.J. He served as an Army Military Policeman in 1954-1956 and was stationed in Germany. He also served 50 years as a volunteer fireman for the Madison Fire Department.
As a father of four sons, he did all he could to provide each of them with their own set of life tools for a responsible and independent adulthood. He was strong and his faith stronger. In his spare time, he could be found coaching his sons in baseball, cheering in the bleachers of wrestling matches, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, golfing, playing softball, vacationing in Canada and enjoying the joys of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his four sons, Anthony and wife Laura, John and wife Lisa, Michael, and Steven and wife Laura; grandchildren, Gabriella, Allison, Anthony, Caroline and Matthew; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation for Tony held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. Those who are unable to attend in person may attend the Mass virtually by visiting www.svmnj.org and following instructions for live-stream Mass viewing.
Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Tony’s name to the Atlantic Home Care and Hospice, 465 South Street, Morristown, N.J. 07960.
