I first met Grant at the Madison Public Library. A fascinating guy, who had many exciting experiences in his life and it was mesmerizing to listen to some of them - especially all the track events.
We both were involved in the sport of track - mine limited to High School.
We also shared many phone calls over the years.
I surely will cherish him and my memories of him for a very long time.
R.I.P. Grant

I remember Cousin Jr’ all to well, when he would visit us at 430
Back in the 60’s.
Always enjoyed his prescence. The last I saw him, was at Cousin Barbara’s funeral about 11 years ago. We chatted outside the. Church and he ask me my age then, and I told him I was 62 and he could not believe it. In any case we had a great short
Conversation and we wished each other the best then. I was always fond of how exact and precise he was about everything.
Rest in Peace Cousin Jr’ from Harold.

Cousin Jr. is my 3rd cousin. I met him as child in the 1980's in Harlem, General Grant Houses to be exact, my home. I was always proud to know we have a professional track runner in the family and looking at photos of him running. In 2019 I seen cousin Jr. again at my uncle Carl's funeral. I said to cousin Jr. while I shook his hand "Hey cousin Jr. I'm Wendy's son Raymond, cousin Jr. was smiling and said "the baby" I said yes! God Bless you cousin Jr.

Many of the values we have installed in ourselves come from the people we grew up with as a kid. I've known Grant since 1985. And I've known his dad since then as well. And what I've learned from Mr. Scruggs was not the value of money. But the value of loyalty and hard work. I don't ever recall having a conversation with Mr. Scruggs about money or career because Mr Scruggs didn't care about how much money I made but what kind of person I would become. Even after 30 years I remember just recently having a problem and Grant saying " Hold on. I'll ask my dad" and the next day saying "'My dad says ok"
Mr. Scruggs always made me feel at home. And now that you've gone home Mr Scruggs, I'll remember you fondly and continue to live with the value of hard work and loyalty I learned from you
