Obituary of Arlyne D. Geyer
Arlyne D. Geyer (née Cook), a longtime New Vernon resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024. She was 90.
Arlyne leaves behind her devoted daughters Debra Goldberg (Sandy) and Cheryl Monod; seven cherished grandchildren Corey, Kyle, Christy, Colette, Chas, Landon, and Garrett; two treasured great grandchildren Mack and Stone; one brother, Jerry Cook (Kathy); and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Charles W. Geyer in 2021.
Arlyne was born in Irvington on January 7, 1934, to the late Walter and Delores Cook (née Williams). She met her future husband, Charles, on the beach in Belmar, and the couple married on June 25, 1955. They first settled in Union before purchasing land in New Vernon and building their own home that they lived in for over 40 years.
Arlyne was a devoted wife and mother who was kind and loving to everyone she met. She was always well dressed and put together and carried herself with grace and elegance. Though she had her fair share of health struggles throughout her life, she never complained and remained strong and resilient. Arlyne was an excellent cook and baker of just about any food or dessert imaginable. Her family fondly remembers her chocolate cakes and her pork chops. She even cooked in the concession stand during her husband’s little league games. The Geyer house was always the place to be during the holidays, and Arlyne adored entertaining and hosting family parties.
Arlyne was an accomplished seamstress who sewed many outfits for her daughters. She was a member of the New Vernon Garden Club and loved tending to her impressive flower garden. Arlyne was also a skilled roller skater in her younger years. Her family will always miss her warm and loving spirit, but they take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
Services for Arlyne will be held privately for her family.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Arlyne’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
