I just learned of Mr. Roberts's passing last night. He was my Principal back when I was a Freshman at MHS in 1990. He always greeted students with a smile and I will always remember how he treated all of us like his own kids. My condolences to his loved ones. Rest in Peace Mr. Roberts.

I was so very sad to hear of Mr. Robert's passing. Being the daughter of two parents who worked in the Madison school system and having attended Madison High school (class of 74), myself and my family knew Mr. Roberts in many different capasities. Both my dad and my mom had a special place in their hearts for Mr. Roberts. In fact, my entire family does. He was a wonderful, kind and encouraging man and he will definitely be missed. My heart goes out to his family with my deepest sympathy.

Where do I begin...Mr. Roberts, my Algebra 1 & 11 teacher, my principal in my senior year at MHS (class of '68), my friend. He had the patience of Jobe in trying to cram the world of Algebra into my thick skull! Always with a wide smile, a friendly hello, lets get going to class, words of encouragement to try my best! I'm sure he's in heaven arguing with my dad (Joe Mezzacca Sr.) whose the better ball team, his beloved Boston Red Soxs or my dad's beloved NY Yankees! As we walk the roads of life, we meet people who really stand out, make an difference. Mr. Roberts was such an person, I consider myself lucky to have had him in my life. I will never forget him. My sincerest condolences to the Robert's family. May God fly him home on Eagles Wings!

Although was rarely in the MHS office for any reason (disciplinary or otherwise), Mr. Roberts knew my name and always had a smile and a kind word for me. I've often thought of him, and believed that my wonderful experience at MHS was a result of his leadership there and how he shepherded both the faculty and the students.
He will be missed.

I had the privilege of knowing Mr. Roberts when he was our class advisor (Class of '64) and of meeting him again at reunions in 2004 and 2010. I have read the previous posts and couldn't agree m ore. Joe was a great influence on me and my '64 friends, a kind, caring, thoroughly dedicated teacher and a compassionate and decent man. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Joe is very lucky indeed. May he rest in peace, or rather, may he be touring the heavenly version of Europe with his many friends up there!

Mr. Roberts was a true friend of my mom, Wynne Smith. She spent her entire career at MHS as the school nurse with Mr. Roberts at the helm. As students, many of us probably didn't appreciate him at the time. He was a caring man and truly loved MHS.

I was very fortunate to have worked under the leadership of Mr. Roberts as a new teacher when I first started my career at Madison High School. He was a kind and compassionate principal and a great leader who always had the best interests of the teachers and students in mind. He was an inspiration and a friend to us all, and he will be greatly missed.

Mr. Roberts was a straight up nice guy. He was always fair when dealing with people. Before graduation, he told me if I ever needed anything, to call him. I took him up on that offer. I contacted him several times over the years for his opinion, and some advice. He was always forthcoming, and helped in several decisions. He had a good heart. I will not forget him, and have a deep respect for him. RIP, Mr Roberts, your were one of the good ones. My sympathy to his family.

A good principal. I'll never forget a chance meeting in a grocery store in Madison twenty years after I graduated. He spotted me and called out my name effortlessly -- after twenty years!
