Obituary of Joseph Patrick Micucci

Joseph Patrick Micucci "Joe Joe", of Summit, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 9, 2017 with his family by his side. He was 84.

Born in Morristown, Joseph was raised in Madison. He and his beloved wife of 58 years, Arlene Micucci (nee Ziegler), moved to Summit 50 years ago. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. Joseph was a heavy machine operator and enjoyed his work tremendously. He was a very skilled operator and safely performed his work for many years. He was employed by the Borough of Florham Park, before retiring 20 years ago. Prior to that, he worked in the same capacity, operating equipment for Guerierro Paving in Madison. Joseph and his brother, the late Patrick J. Micucci, owned Micucci Family Realty Holdings. Throughout their lives, the two brothers built and maintained homes. Joseph also enjoyed working outdoors, gardening at his home, and repairing small engines.

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, the late Giuseppe and Maria Micucci. He was the last surviving sibling of seven brothers and sisters, the late Dominic Scala, Orsella Macchietto, Marie Kapusta, Gennaro Scala, James "Jake" Paul Micucci, Patrick "Pat" Joseph Micucci, and Baby Scala. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Micucci of Summit; his daughter, Mary Jo DeFonzo of Summit, and her husband Matthew; three cherished grandchildren, Matthew DeFonzo, Nicole DeFonzo, and Alessandra DeFonzo, all of Summit; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 9:00AM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison. Interment will follow at St. Vincent's Cemetery, Madison. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday from 2-4PM & 7-9PM at the funeral home.
