Obituary of Jane J. Sauchelli
Jane J. Sauchelli of Summit, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Manor Care in New Providence. She was 93.
Jane leaves behind her beloved son, Nick Sauchelli and his wife Jill, of Breinigsville, PA; cousins, Fran Gero and Anna O’Cone; devoted friends and sister-in-law, Jean Soccodato, Grace Catillo & Palme DeBiasse; many devoted nieces and nephews; and her grand-pets, Aldo & Gia. Jane was predeceased by her dear husband, Nicholas Sauchelli; her brother, Anthony Armenti; and her sisters, Carmela Giancola, Nancy Kucharewski and Lucy Albanese.
Jane was born in Newark on June 22, 1924 to the late John and Assunta Armenti. She was raised in Madison and was a long-time Summit resident. She was a communicant of St. Teresa of Avila RC Church in Summit and a 3rd Order Apostle of the Universal Sanctification of the Vocationist Father's of Florham Park. She had a good heart and enjoyed baking Italian cookies for family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
Jane was an intelligent, articulate and strong-willed woman who excelled in her career in an era when it was difficult for women to do so. Prior to her marriage, she began working as an insurance claims adjuster with the Motor Club of America of Newark. After that, she was employed by Strong, Cobb and Arner in New Providence where she was a technical coordinator, prior to being promoted to personnel manager. In 1962, she and her husband, the late Nicholas Sauchelli, founded Berkeley Jewelers in Berkeley Heights. She and her family would pride themselves on providing friendly customer service and knowledgeable expertise for four decades. They specialized in elegant, high-end imported jewelry. In 1978, tragedy stuck the family when Jane's husband, Nicholas died suddenly. She continued to successfully manage and operate Berkeley Jewelers until her retirement in 2002.
