Obituary of Mary T. Dwyer
Mary “Mae” Theresa Dwyer (nee McCaffrey), of Madison, passed away at home on Friday, September 14, 2018. She celebrated her 90th birthday just a week prior to her passing.
Mae was born in Tempo in County Fermanagh, Ireland on September 7, 1928 to the late Edward and Mary McCaffrey. She was raised in Ireland and moved to Stony Brook, NY in the early 1950’s where she worked as a nanny. In 1955 Mae was introduced to her beloved husband, Thomas Joseph Dwyer, who also recently moved to the US from Ireland. The couple were married in 1956 lived in Washington Heights, NY for a number of years prior to moving to New Milford in 1971, where they would raise their young family. Mae moved to Madison in 2008 to be closer to her family and grandchildren.
Mae spent her life caring for others and always putting her family and others before herself. Prior to her retirement, Mae was a nursing assistant at the Woodcrest Center in New Milford. She was a woman of tremendous faith in God and in her church. She regularly attended Mass and had a “prayer list” that she constantly added others to. Mae prayed daily for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a kind heart and will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Mae was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Thomas Joseph Dwyer in 2008; and her six siblings, Margaret, Phillip, Edward, John, Rose & Patrick. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Patrick Dwyer and his wife Diane, of Bedford, NH & Thomas Dwyer and his wife Jane, of Madison; two daughters, Mary Tietjen and her husband Michael, of Northvale & Colleen Breznak and her husband Mark, of Montville; her grandchildren, Michael Tietjen (Kristen), Jessica Frain (Elizabeth), Erin Wendt (James), Shannon Dwyer, Ryan Dwyer, Michael Breznak, Kerri Breznak, Katherine Dwyer, Tommy Dwyer, Owen Dwyer & Will Dwyer; her great-grandchildren, Marilyn, Gerard, Evie Mae; many nieces & nephews, a dear friend, Jim Sapio; and many friends at the Madison Senior Citizen’s Building.
Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison. Interment will be held privately at the family’s request. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Mae’s life on Sunday from 1:00PM to 5:00PM at the funeral home.
