Obituary of Mildred L. Deats
Mildred Lorraine Deats "Aunt Bunny" entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday November 16, 2018 at Manor Care in Mountainside, at the age of 88.
Mildred was born in Newark on October 9, 1930 to the late Austin and Amelia Deats. She was raised and lived in Newark for most of her life. She also lived in Ogdensburg before moving to Union several years ago.
Mildred was an active parishioner of the Evangel Baptist Church of Springfield for many years. She was a devout Christian who studied her Bible daily, both with a bible study group at church and privately. She gave back to the church that she loved so dearly by teaching at their Sunday School for many years and acting as a leader in the church’s Pioneer Girls Club. She was grateful for the opportunity take part in a ministry to teach children and help them follow Christ.
Mildred was a world traveler who never missed an opportunity to see the world. She was especially proud of her visit to Australia.
Before retiring, Mildred had a long career as an insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Company of Newark.
In addition to her beloved parents, Mildred was predeceased by her sister, Helen Raab. She is survived by a sister, Frances Heine of Union; two nieces, Nancy Russo and her husband, Ben of Madison & Lynn DaCunha and her husband, Joseph of Madison; one nephew, William Heine and his wife, Phyllis of Union; six grandnieces and nephews & 3 great-grandnieces and nephews.
A visitation to celebrate Mildred’s life will be held from 9:00AM to 11:00AM on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison followed by an 11:00AM funeral service held at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Three Bridges Reformed Church Cemetery, 470 Main Street, Three Bridges.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made in Mildred’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
