Obituary of Victoria Arana Dew

Maria Victoria Arana Dew, a longtime Madison resident, died peacefully at her home on Friday, September 6, 2019 after a long illness.  Victoria was born on November 1, 1950 in Cali, Colombia and moved to Brooklyn, NY with her parents and sisters at the age of eight years.  She was a graduate of Brooklyn College.

Victoria appreciated the outdoors.  She enjoyed camping, hiking, biking, skiing, and teaching SCUBA diving.  She had served as an advisor for Sea Scouts in Staten Island and as Committee Head of Boy Scout Troop 25 of Madison.  She was a devoted mother and avidly assisted her sons’ participation in Madison’s sports programs, Boy Scout Troop 25 and Long Hill Chapel Youth Group.

She was an assistant teacher at Madison High School.  She taught Spanish and special needs students.  She also assisted with the Madison Before and After School Program and, in the past, served as a teacher at the pre-kindergarten schools at Long Hill Chapel and St. Vincent Martyr Church.

Victoria was a devout Christian and was an active member of Long Hill Chapel of Chatham.  She enjoyed taking part and leading various activities as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, youth group advisor, prayer groups and mission trips.

She is survived by her beloved husband of thirty-six years, John Dew of Madison and her three sons: William Dew and his wife, Tanya of Denham Springs, LA and their children Abigail, Caleb and Benjamin; Jonathan Dew and his wife, April also of Denham Springs, LA and their children Jaxson and Natalie; and U.S. Navy Second Class Petty Officer David Dew and his wife, Bianca of McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey and their children Elijah and Liam.  As well, she is survived by her four sisters to include Eugenia Arana del Rosario of Gandia, Spain, Lucia Arana of Bethlehem, PA, Cecilia Arana Conti of Bergenfield, NJ and Elizabeth Ierardi of Somersworth, NH, as well as nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation for Victoria will be held from 5:00PM to 9:00PM on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. A memorial service will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Long Hill Chapel, 525 Shunpike Road, Chatham, followed by a luncheon.  In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Victoria’s name to Youth with a Mission (YWAM), P.O. Box 3000, Lindale, TX 75771 or Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps at 29 Prospect St.  Madison, NJ 07940.
