I found yoga and Theresa in 1994. Moved to Delaware in 2014 and haven’t seen her since.
But her voice, her smile and her serene demeanor are with me for life. Inner strength, joy and hope are conjured up just by pulling up a memory of her in the large classroom at the top of the stairs. She created the spiritual essence that one felt in that space.
Being in her presence was being in a special place. I thank the Lord for placing her and her wisdom in my life.
I pray she lives on in glory. Reaping the eternal rewards of a life well lived.
Theresa....you will be loved and remembered always. Namaste

This beautiful photo of Jeff and Theresa was taken at our home in Florida in May of 2016. Theresa's and our connection grew a bit closer in the last few years. Towards the end we had a chance to acknowledge what we shared in a deeper and more heartfelt way. We will always remember her sincere commitment to her practice, to her students, and to all whom she loved. That was who she was, and her selflessness and dedication showed all who were privileged to know her that those qualities are immortal, and that they place her in the timeless stream of Love and Wisdom that she cherished and nurtured with all her heart and soul. She will be missed. She is truly loved.
In Gratitude,
Janet and David Rubinson

I first met Theresa in 1999, when a yoga friend brought her to Ithaca (NY) to do a weekend workshop. At that first class she shared a few words and tears about "coming home" to this area and the recent passing of her grandmother. First my heart, and then my body were touched, and what started as yogic curiosity (I was at that point already a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher) became my lifelong Iyengar Yoga path. I followed her back to NJ the next weekend and plunged into her Studio Yoga Teacher's class. She was unwavering in her support of my fledgling (mostly floundering) efforts, and over the next seventeen years guided me through three assessments.
Her mother, Jeanette Rowland, was a neighbor here in Newfield, so for me there was the family connection as well.
We brought her to Ithaca to teach, twice a year, for many years. Her devoted students reaped the many rewards of her brilliant sequences, quirky humor, and profound insights (especially, in recent years, around the vayu-s.)
BKS Iyengar wrote about shining the light of consciousness in every cell of the body. This, I think, is what Theresa did for all of us. Most especially the cells in the region of the heart.

I share my grief in the passing away of Theresa Rowland. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by us all, who knew her.
Gopali from Peace of India NJ who was her student introduced me to her in 2003 since then she was hosting me in Studio Yoga.
She was instrumental securing me P3 visa by writing an article for visa purposes in 2009 (for Piece of India) which helped me to travel to USA and share my practice.
She was an ardent practitioner who studied and practiced even when she was ill.
She inspired her many students to become not only good teachers but good human beings. Through her I came to know about many senior teachers.
I am thankful for the many years we spent together sharing the Joy of Yoga especially during lunch in her office at the Studio.
Let her Soul Rest in Peace.
God Bless
Arun

When I first met Theresa in the early 70s, she was in the process of re-building herself emotionally and physically from a traumatic back injury. She was learning to trust other people again, and learning to trust herself. She was doing this by changing her focus from her earlier training in dance and gymnastics to the study of yoga.
She took an event that could have been considered tragic and transformed it into a way to heal herself and then countless others through her devotion to teaching and learning as a life path.
Theresa was mercurial. She could present herself with her feet planted firmly on the ground and a level gaze that expressed a fire, a fierce level of self-discipline and attention to detail.
She could also melt into a radiant smile and a childlike sense of wonder and abandon to the world around her.
Although we separated paths many years ago, I am grateful for her presence in my life.

I joined Studio Yoga in Madison in Feb 1999 - having moved a few months ago to the US from India. I still remember the warmth with which she spoke as I registered. Studio Yoga was like home away from home for me - and mostly because of Theresa. A more giving soul and a fantastic teacher. She will be forever cherished by me. Gone too soon and very much our loss.

I had the good fortune to have Theresa in my life in 1985 in State College PA when starting out as a lawyer. It was a difficult time for me and participating in yoga classes and retreats led by both a skilled and loving Theresa at the Center for Well Being soothed my troubled soul. Godspeed Theresa as your enlightened soul moves on to the next phase of your existence.

Querida Theresa,
I feel you here with me all the time. Your voice, your love, the toughness, the lightness, the space, your never-ending and constant support, your creativity, the ritual, your voice, your dedication. I carry you in my heart from the very first moment that you touched me deep, at the soul level. I imagine you somewhere perhaps momentarily with the Pleiades, you a bright star with Brahman, Akasha. The mystery remains, thank God for that, for you, for everything you created and supported, this big family of teachers, students and fans. The work and the effort, the sacrifice, the joy and the tradition. Thank you so much for everything you gave and for being you. May you rest in peace.

I met Theresa at a yoga workshop in NYC. Feeling a bit shy and a bit misplaced (coming from a small Australian town) I was soon taken under Theresa's wings. We worked together in the class and went to lunch together. She was so heartfelt and caring.
She invited me to teach at her studio when I was going to be visiting my family in Montreal the following year. I did that and got to spend good quality time with Theresa then and the following year. I was struck by how genuine she was and so giving of herself.
Over the last few years I enjoyed receiving her group email, following her on her healing journey. How inspiring she was till the end. I am so pleased our paths crossed and relieved that now she can Rest In Peace.
Sending condolences and love to her family, friends and students.

One of the first yoga classes I ever attended back in 2001 was taught by Theresa. Her attention to alignment made a huge impression on me. Theresa was the foundation of so many yoga students and teachers in NJ. She will be remembered and she will be missed.

Theresa played an important role in the beginning of my yoga props business as my first commercial customer and I received from her several important lessons that I benefit from every day. I had the pleasure to meet her in person on several occasions and I am stuck by how my experience of her matches so exactly the remembrances of her that I read. Go forth with love, Theresa.

There always came a lightness inside myself when thinking about Theresa. She wasn’t my teacher but a potential and aspiration for how to be a female and a yogi—We shared time next to each other in workshops all over and including Studio Yoga. Her humor, intelligence, generosity and compassion for me and whomever I saw her encounter was just who she was. I will miss knowing she is on this earth and am grateful for these last few years of deeper connection. May her transition be full of reward and while peace and blessings abide in all the hearts that Theresa touched...
