Although I did not know Ben or his family, I read about the tragic passing of my fellow alumnus and New Jerseyan after reading the William and Mary Magazine today. Go Tribe!
I wanted to express my condolences to all of you. Ben lived an interesting life. The irony I felt when reading about Ben, was that I never had the pleasure of meeting him, although I live in Monmouth County and have extended family that live in Millburn, NJ. It would have been great to meet a fellow alum and discuss the great things about William and Mary.
May he rest in the peace. May all of his family and friends be blessed with the fortitude and peace needed to weather this loss.
Sincerest condolences.

I am so sorry for your loss. My daughter Lauren was in Ben's class and when she told me the sad news, she asked if I remembered Ben.
I said of course, how could I forget such an incredibly nice guy. Lauren felt the same way too.
Know that my heartfelt sympathy to you and your entire family.

Our heartfelt condolences to Barbara and Bradley. Our family loved watching Ben run down Lafayette Ave. It is no surprise he loved horses. He was graced with the strength and fortitude of the beauty of a stallion.

Ben was one of our son's (Peter) first friends when we moved to Chatham in 1990. We formed a "play-group" with Barbara and Ben that lasted many years. Barbara and Ben both had a wonderful sense-of-humor... and we shared many Halloween parties, field trips to Loantaka Park, etc. Very fond memories. Ben was an amazing runner at Chatham High School, and in college.
I can picture him running the streets of Chatham as a daily activity! We send our sincere sympathy to Barbara, Brad, and the entire Massam family. We're so very sorry for your loss.

Ben was a tenacious and gracious competitor. He pushed the pace and the mileage, which was inspiring. I had the privilege of running against him (aka behind him) in high school and college. It is a big loss for the Garden State and very sad to see a person of his character pass so young. F*ck cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with the Massam family and Ben's friends. He'll be blitzing the Bowl from the next life.

While I don’t have a specific memory to write, Ben was a quiet and thoughtful leader on the CHS track team. We always said a strong wind would blow him away he was so slim. He inspired the kids to work hard and good results would come. It was a wonderful group of kids and he represented Chatham humbly.
