Obituary of Catherine "Kay" Seifert
Catherine E. “Kay” Seifert, 90, died peacefully on January 6, 2020 at Pine Acres Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Kay was raised in Cobleskill, New York, the daughter of Fulton Edward Woodman and Georgina Kinney Woodman.
Kay began her career as an executive secretary at General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York, where she met “the love of her life” Daniel Seifert, whom she wed on July 9, 1955. He predeceased her in 2009. Kay and Dan later made their home in Red Hook, Dutchess County, New York where Kay ended her career as the treasurer of the Red Hook School District. Kay was an active member of the Red Hook United Methodist Church, serving on the board of the church’s nursery school.
Beautiful inside and out, Kay was a loving mother to Catherine A. Seifert and her partner, John Brennan of South Orange NJ; loving and devoted grandmother to Caroline Kinney Levine of Manhattan, New York, and Alice & Grace Shaffer of Scarborough, Maine. She was predeceased by her daughter, Christine Ann Shaffer and is also survived by son-in-law, Larry Shaffer. Kay was also predeceased by her siblings William Woodman, Edward Woodman and Muriel Woodman Peterson, her brothers-in-law, William Zonitch and Walter Shulha. Kay is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Olga Seifert Zonitch of Guilderland, NY and niece, Judy Simon and her husband, The Honorable Steven J. Simon of Albany, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews and grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Watervliet, NY.
