Tom and I met at the Maryknoll Fathers college seminary in Illinois back in 1957 and spent the next five years together and got to know each other pretty well. When he decided to leave the seminary in 1961 I asked if he would like to live with my folks in Roseland, NJ since he had met my family on several home visits and this gave him an opportunity to figure out the next phase of his life. He lived there for 6 months before entering the Marine Corps. My younger siblings had fond memories of him during this time.
Tom was a special help to my mother in navigating some Medicare issues and he would occasionally visit back in Roseland. It was interesting that he found NJ as a resting place for his growing family for many years. I was grateful that he attended both my parents’ funerals.
I remember Tom as a quiet but strong individual who usually did things rather than just talk about them. I am proud to have known him and shared his friendship.

Oh My Mr. Smiley how you are missed. I look at your picture everyday and how lucky I am to have known you and have gotten to know your beautiful family. These words are such a lovely tribute to him. Great job Fishers. I thank you so much Mrs. Fisher for sharing with me. This made me cry and smile at the same time. Love always, Jacky

This one made me smile, gasp, and cry.
After 11 years of typing obits for a Western newspaper, I read tributes for historical reasons as well as sharing with my mother, age 90, who now lives in Ohio.
She will love reading about your father's extraordinary life as much as I did -- because she and my late father were members of "The Greatest Generation."
Thank you for sharing your story.

Tom lived with us before he entered the marines. He wanted to be in good shape so every morning before his run he would drink a raw egg. I was a young girl at the time and was impressed by his devotion to fitness. Once when he was on leave and visiting he brought beautiful jewelry boxes for my sister and I. He always seemed larger than life.

To all the Fishers..Your memories of and stories about your father Tom are remarkable..and reveal the life of a unique
and truly fine human being... Joe and I are glad that we got to spend time with him..His character and abilities ...his strengths and
the values that inspired his life.. are truly reflected in his children and grandchildren..of whom he was justifiably proud..
He will live forever in them..The last part of your story was especially moving..the April 2020 marriage proposal..He
always knew..then and now..that Linda was the one...May Tom Fisher Rest in Peace..

I cried as I read this. What a life! What a family. There was so much we did not know about Tom but I guess you all felt the same way. Somehow when he was at a family event or sporting sideline, you always felt like he was happy just where he was; in on the joke, without having to say a word, just a nod and a smile. I’ve never seen such devotion of siblings to each other and to their parents. You obviously learned from example and should feel proud that you carry on his legacy in your own families and communities. The unfortunate circumstances surrounding Covid May have taken him a bit soon, but he knew you were all there with him and he was blessed in that knowledge. As Martin Luther quoted “God was the first to cry”...Love you guys

All of the Hunters that lived in Flemington, just half a block away from your house are very sad to hear this news. Tom was a kind man and we had great respect for him. Your family did a great job with the obituary and you are so lucky to have had him as a father and husband for Linda. We are all thinking of you and praying for you all, including Tom. Love and prayers to you all from Greg, Diane, Alison, Tim, Nicky and Jane Hunter.
