Sincere condolences to Scott and all the Spelker family. I first met Audrey shortly after I moved to Madison, at a clothing drive at our church where we were both working. Later, I again met Audrey with Rose City Steppers as we walked the streets of Madison as a group and would share conversation. A few years ago, I met Audrey and her daughter-in-law Amy at a Thursday Morning Club event where both of them were volunteering their time. I would often see Audrey in church accompanied by her son Matthew, I believe. More recently, I saw Audrey at church with oxygen attached to her. Faith was an important part of Audrey’s life. So was her family; Audrey told me she was blessed with three wonderful sons and the women they married; I know the next generation was equally important.

Dear Spelker Family: Please know that you have my prayers and deepest sympathies over the death of dear Audrey. She was indeed an advocate for social justice and the concerns for the homeless. She lived Jesus' message .."feed the poor" ... "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you did it for me... Audrey surely did that! I fondly remember her in our social justice ministry at Saint Vincent and the advocate that she was... May she rest in peace... +blessings, Fr Ron

Mrs. Spelker was a warm, loving teacher at the Peck School and a friend to me as a parent. Always an inviting smile. She will be missed by all who knew her.

In 1981 I was a 40 year old college sophomore taking an elective in photography. The assignment was a module on portraits. I took pictures of my three kids but that wasn't enough. I asked Audrey for some help. She came over and did her reading sitting in my back yard most of the afternoon so that I could buzz around her and take dozens of black and white pictures of her, under various conditions, so that I could get my assignment completed. That's a good friend. One of her family members uploaded one of those pictures to this memorial on 12-3 (#2). I met Audrey when I was 16. She and Arnold taught me how to play Penochle.
I was introduced to Mark when he was about 8 days old. So many wonderful memories. How I will miss my friend !
