Obituary of Anna M. McLaughlin
Anna M. McLaughlin died peacefully on her favorite holiday, Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020. Though she could not be present to celebrate with her family here on earth, she was lovingly welcomed into eternal life by the Lord and into the heavenly Christmas celebration by all of her family and friends that passed away before her.
Anna M. McLaughlin (née Mantone) was born in Morristown on March 8, 1939 to the late Samuel C. and Emilia Mantone. She was raised in Madison with her three brothers, Joseph, Louis & Samuel and two sisters, Nancy & Rae. She was a graduate of Madison High School and after graduation Anna began her first career as a key punch operator. She ended her career as secretary for the Chatham Township Department of Public Works for many years prior to her retirement.
Anna was married to her beloved husband, the late Peter J. McLaughlin, Sr on June 10, 1961 and the couple settled in Anna’s hometown Madison, where they raised their family. Anna’s family was paramount in her life. She was a wonderful wife and incredible mother, and loved to cook for family and friends. She was known was well-known for her holiday specialities, especially her famous traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinners.
Anna was a lifelong parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr Church and was a member of the Rosary Society. She was an active and dedicated member of the Madison community and believed in giving back to her hometown which she loved dearly. Anna was a longtime member of the Madison Ambulance Corps Auxiliary and helped to raise funds for the Ambulance Corps when needed. She was also a longtime member of Red Hat Society.
Anna will be deeply missed by her family and friends and they will cherish the beautiful memories they have of her.
In addition to her parents, Anna was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter J. McLaughlin, Sr.; her three brothers, Joseph Mantone, Louis A. Mantone, Sr. & Samuel “Jiggs” Mantone; her brother-in-law, Joseph “Brownie” Esposito; and her sister-in-law, Lareida "Rita" Mantone. She is survived by her son Peter J. McLaughlin, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Cedar Knolls; her daughter Amelia McLaughlin of Madison; two sisters, Nancy Esposito & Rae Sladen; two sister-in-laws, Frances Mantone & Joyce Mantone; five cherished grandchildren, Katherine, Peter III, Kelly, Luke & Robert; many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews; and many dear friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 10:00AM at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison. For those that wish, you may attend the Funeral Liturgy virtually via live-stream by visiting www.svmnj.org and viewing the mass on the main webpage of the church beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.
** Visitors to the funeral home and church are required to wear masks and practice proper social distancing. In order to maintain a safe number of people in the funeral home, we kindly and respectfully ask that after paying your respects you give others the same opportunity by making your visit brief.**
