Obituary of Daad N. Hajjar

Daad N. Hajjar, of Berkeley Heights, formerly a longtime Chatham resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021. She was 76.

Daad was born in Karoun, Lebanon on November 9, 1944 to the late Naif and Nazha Hajjar. She grew up in Lebanon with her five siblings.

After marrying her beloved husband, the late Semaan Hajjar, the couple moved to Mauritania where Daad owned and managed Carolina’s Bakery for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother to her three treasured children. Daad and Semaan retired back to Lebanon in 1998, and later emigrated to the United States to be close to their children, settling in Chatham.

Daad thoroughly enjoyed cooking and knitting in her free time and had a giving and generous spirit. She utilized her love for cooking by volunteering her culinary skills to the Shrine of St. Joseph in Long Hill Township. She put her skill at knitting to wonderful use by knitting hats for babies and preemies that she donated to Overlook Hospital. Above all, Daad’s priority in life was the love and care that she provided for her beloved family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Daad was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 35 years, Semaan Hajjar in 2004, an her brother George Hajjar. She is survived by two sons, Tony Hajjar and his wife Aida, and Nicholas Hajjar; one daughter, Carol Hajjar and her husband Ali El Hajj Hassan; one brother, Akl Hajjar; three sisters, Lydia Abu Rjaily, Mary Ferzli, and Ghaida Hajjar; four cherished grandchildren, Julia, Laila, Amir, and Hadi; close family friends Moez Hussein and Rawia Fayed, Khalid and Nesma Mohamed, many nieces, nephews, and other dear friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Daad’s life held from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. Interment will be held in Lebanon.
