Obituary of Filomena Prudente

Filomena Prudente (née Terracciano), a lifelong Madison resident, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center.  She was 99 and would have been 100 in a few weeks.

Filomena is survived by her son, Carmine Prudente and his wife, Kathryn; her brother, John Terracciano; her sisters, Mary Prudente, Virginia Piano, Caroline Pezzino, Agnes Yuliano, and Frances Caruso; her cherished grandchildren, Charles Prudente, Robert Prudente, John Prudente, Jane Prudente, Laurie Clark & Ryan Martin; and many nieces, nephews, & dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Filomena was predeceased by her beloved husband, Angelo “Charles” Prudente; her loving son, John Prudente; and her dear sisters, Catherine “Kay” Pendolino & Antoinette Brown.

Filomena was born in Madison on January 12, 1922, to the late Giovanni and Filomena Terracciano (née Cerciello). She was the oldest of nine siblings in a large, close-knit Italian Catholic family. Filomena was especially close with her seven sisters and one brother whom she loved dearly. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr Church.

Filomena was a wonderful mother and was especially delighted to become a grandmother. She loved everyone unconditionally and made sure her family was well cared for. She was an unbelievable baker and her Italian cooking was superb.

Filomena’s love of cooking and caring for others made her career cooking for the children of the Madison Public School System a natural career for her. She also cooked at Drew University in Madison for many years.

Filomena had a genuine personality and warm heart, having a special place in her heart for animals. She loved dogs, cats, birds and especially her little apricot poodle.

Filomena will be deeply missed by her family and friends, however they take comfort in knowing that she is truly at peace with Jesus.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Filomena’s life from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, December 3, 2021, held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 8:15AM on Saturday, December 4, 2021, followed by a 9:30AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. For those that wish, you may attend the Funeral Mass virtually via livestream by visiting www.svmnj.org. *For the safety of all, the family kindly requests that all those attending the visitation and funeral services wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.*  Cremation will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, please make charitable contributions in Filomena’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
