Obituary of Mary V. Simmons
Mary V. Simmons, a longtime resident of Whippany, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 87.
Mary was born in Paterson on May 23, 1934 and was raised in Newark and Orange, NJ. She was a graduate of East Side High School in Newark.
Mary lived in Orange for over 40 years, living the rest of her life in Whippany with her beloved husband, Robert Simmons.
Mary enjoyed baking, which she learned the art from her mother. She enjoyed her many travel experiences with her husband and dear friends, and she especially enjoyed cruises.
Mary started her career with Western Electric, moving on to become an executive supervisor with AT&T and Lucent for 47 years. She had been retired for 22 years. Mary was a woman of tremendous faith and a longtime parishioner of both Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Orange & St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Genevieve Vecchiarello; and her two brothers, Vincent and Michael Vecchiarello. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Robert Simmons; her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Sukurlu, Anthony Vecchiarello and his wife Bonnie, Teresa DeMarzo and her husband Sam; as well as many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Mary’s life from 2:00PM to 6:00PM on Monday, December 27, 2021, held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
Funeral services will begin at 8:30AM at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 followed by a 9:45AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 312 Ridgedale Ave, East Hanover. *For the safety of all, the family kindly requests that all those attending the visitation and funeral services wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.*
Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
