Obituary of Sylvia Ann Abbondanzo
Sylvia Abbondanzo, a longtime resident of Morristown, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 85.
She is survived by her adoring children, Joseph Abbondanzo and Kathleen Abbondanzo; her sisters, Mary Jane Mackin and Kathleen Beston; and many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, John A. Abbondanzo in 2020 and a son, John A. Abbondanzo, Jr.; her parents, Martin and Anna Mackin; her brothers, Paul Mackin, Donald Mackin & Martin Mackin Jr.; and her sister, Ann Struble.
Sylvia graduated from Saint Margaret Grade School in Morristown and Bayley Ellard High School. She was awarded a scholarship to attend Saint Elizabeth’s College but opted for work and marriage.
Sylvia worked briefly at Bell Labs in Whippany. She worked various roles at All Souls Hospital in Morristown for many years, including secretary to the Tumor Board. She then joined a new practice in the 1970’s at Morristown Cardiology Associates, where she had many close friends and worked for over 35 years.
Sylvia was a wonderful wife and mother. She was well loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation from 2-4PM & 7-9PM on Thursday, January 27, 2022 held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 9:00AM on Friday, January 28, 2022 followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, 91 Maple Avenue, Morristown. For those that wish, you may attend the Funeral Mass virtually via livestream by visiting www.assumptionparish.org *For the safety of all, we respectfully require that all those attending the visitation and funeral services wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.*
Entombment will be held privately for the family.
