Obituary of Dorothy Ann Cocuzza

Dorothy Ann Cocuzza (née DeLorenzo), a lifelong Madison resident, entered into eternal rest peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 23, 2022. She was 81.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Peter W. Cocuzza; her two loving daughters, Donna Wesbecker and her husband Kevin & Kimberly Brodeur and her husband Christopher; five cherished grandchildren, Brooke, Chloe, Lauren, Jonathan & Thea; one sister, Margaret DeBiasse and her husband Raymond; one brother-in-law Russ DeNaro; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by five of her sisters, Rose Scioscia, Antoinette Gianatasio, Angelina Prisco, Marie DeNaro, & Frances DeLorenzo.

Dorothy was born on December 28, 1940 to Frank and Concetta DeLorenzo. She was raised in Madison with her six sisters in a loving Italian Catholic family.

Dorothy was a graduate of Madison High School and went on to graduate from the IBM School of Computers in New York City. She had a long career as the billing and IT manager at Northern New Jersey Orthopedics of Madison before retiring.

Dorothy’s life revolved around her family and her grandchildren, who she adored. She loved being a grandmother and teaching her five grandchildren how to knit and use creativity to craft beautiful items. Dorothy also enjoyed passing her vast experience as a wonderful cook and baker down to her daughters and grandchildren. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially for dogs and cats.

Dorothy was well-known for her strong Catholic faith and her generous giving from the heart.  She supported many charities especially missionaries and she was always generous towards the needy and impoverished. Throughout her entire life Dorothy was always thoughtful in her acts of kindness and giving to benefit others.

Although the loss of Dorothy leaves behind an irreplaceable void, her memory, legacy of charity and genuine, warm-hearted nature will live on.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will include a visitation from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday, January 31, 2022 held at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.

Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 9:00AM on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. For those that wish, you may attend the Funeral Mass virtually via livestream by visiting www.svmnj.org. For the safety of all, we respectfully require that all those attending the visitation and funeral services wear a mask.

Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, please make charitable contributions in Dorothy’s memory to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, P.O. Box 159, 575 Woodland Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940.
