Obituary of Oscar Hernandez-Perez

Oscar Hernandez, a longtime Chatham resident, passed away suddenly on Saturday night, February 5, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife Beatriz Cataño, his beloved children Yulady Saluti, Sandra Valle, Brian Hernandez, and his 6 grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Chatham, NJ, Oscar dedicated his life to the service of others. He worked in the food service industry countless hours per week in the hopes of creating a better life for his family.

Although Oscar’s time in this life was too short, his impact on both his family and the community was immeasurable. Oscar epitomized the American dream, always putting the needs of others before his own. His kindness and love could be felt with each of his incredible smiles and every bite of the wonderful food he made. Papá as he was so aptly called by his children and grandchildren alike was a simple man with simple needs. He loved nothing more than taking care of others, spending time with his family, dancing and playing soccer with his friends. He will be remembered most for his incredible humility, overwhelming kindness and unshakable spirit.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation for Oscar held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 6:00PM during the visitation. For everyone's safety, we respectfully require masks to be worn during the visitation and funeral service. For those unable to attend, the service may be attended virtually by visiting the Madison Memorial Home Facebook Page. Interment will take place in Colombia at a future date.
