Obituary of Anna Allocca

Anna Allocca, a longtime Madison resident, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 10, 2022 with her beloved daughter by her side. She had recently celebrated her 99th birthday.

Anna is survived by her beloved daughter, Lina Allocca Dworak and her husband Ken of Madison; her two cherished grandsons, Christopher and Nicholas; numerous nieces & nephews; and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio Allocca; her son, Ralph Allocca; and her six siblings.

Anna was born on February 2, 1923 in Marigliano, Italy to the late Antonio and Filomena Alise. She was raised in a close-knit family of seven children. Anna learned the art of sewing in Italy, and it was something she enjoyed well into her later years.

In 1955 Anna and her family emigrated to the United States, settling on Keep Street in Madison, NJ. A few years later in 1958 Anna met her beloved Antonio and the couple were married soon after. Anna and Antonio stayed in Madison to be close to her family and to raise a family of their own. Before the couple welcomed their own children into the family, Anna worked at the McGregor Clothing Company in Summit, NJ. She specialized in fabricating coat linings and felt at home there since many of the employees recently moved here from Italy. The couple soon welcomed a son Ralph and daughter Lina into the Allocca family.

Anna was a wonderful mother and her life was truly dedicated to her children & entire family. She was thrilled to become a grandmother and enjoyed taking care of her grandsons. Anna loved to cook for family and friends and was famous for her homemade tomato sauce that she canned every year well into her 80’s. 

Anna was a strong-willed, humble and quiet woman. When she spoke people listened, and she was not afraid to speak her mind. Anna was well-loved by everyone and loved a good laugh. She had a tremendous faith and regularly attended mass at St. Vincent Martyr Church. 

Anna loved to walk around Madison and she enjoyed many years of good health & independence. She loved playing the lottery and purchasing scratch-off tickets, and it was well-known among family and friends that Anna was lucky more than the average person. She always looked forward to that next trip to Atlantic City as well.

Anna was very dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. May she Rest in Peace.

Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison. Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison. Visitation will be held privately for family on Monday at the funeral home. We respectfully require masks during the visitation and funeral services.
