It's been a year since Alexander has passed away and I still think of him. I remember back in college he'd ride the subway back with me after gymnastics practice even though it was in the opposite direction of where he lived. Then we'd sit on the floor at the end of the hallway at my parents' apartment and have long talks late into the night. Rest in peace my dear friend, thinking of you and praying for you on your first death anniversary.

I loved my uncle Alex so much. My father was Gregory who passed many years ago. My name is Christine, my sister Cindy, Natalie and my brother Andrew always loved him he was one of our favorite relative. I always told him when I was a little girl I was going to marry him. I lost touch after my dad passed away but always held on to my very fond memories of my Uncle Alex. I'm so sorry if anything you need please don't hesitate to call 480-376-3128

Alex was the best. His form was so impeccable and a true master of the basics; he beat other gymnast with higher skills. As a person he was pretty funny and I truly miss our Friday night workouts and snack, drinks and jokes afterwards. He shall be missed

My condolences to the Petrunia family.
Alex was an outstanding gymnast...esp on the pommel horse. As a freshman on the CCNY gymnastics team, I was impressed with him, his clean form and his skills. Pommel horse was my favorite apparatus, and I was really excited about improving my skills.
I asked Alex what was his secret. He told me to " Focus on your goals...Be disciplined, work hard and don't let anyone or anything distract you from your goals." This advice has served me well in all aspects of my life.
Thank you Alex...I am fortunate to have known you. Fritz Jean

Condolences to the family of Alex Petrunia. He was a good friend to our family. I didn't have any direct contact with him after I moved out of the area, but I will always remember him as the dynamic and inspiring captain of his men's gymnastic team, with a proper sense of ambition, always appreciating and making the best advantage he could of the opportunities life gave him. He was always ready with a smile and caring wisdom to share.

Alex will truly be missed I met Alex 30 years ago at the YMCA in Madison …. Alex has taught me so many lessons in life and memories of his life there’s no other like him genuine caring intelligent extremely intelligent Very very funny I was blessed enough to have him come back into my life these past two years We would talk about all his plants all the cooking he’s done all the rides he went on and all the accessories for his motorcycle so people could hear him speeding by We would share movies on what to watch and what we’ve seen. And he seem to watch more chick flicks Than I did I will cherish All the time I got to spend with him years ago and the previous interactions I had with him they will forever be in my heart and my memory I will miss him immensely

I'm Miah Valderrama, and Alex was like a big brother to me. As a single mom, I appreciated his love and support for me and my son Ram, pictured with him in these memories. I would like to share Mother Teresa's "Anyway Poem" in honor of him:
People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

Alex was an amazing uncle to my siblings and I. One of the funniest and wittiest people I’ve ever met, he was never afraid to speak his mind. I will always cherish our phone calls that that started off about a quick topic and always turned into a hour+ conversation about anything and everything. I will never forget what he said on our last phone call together, “Keep living until you die.” His memory will continue to inspire me everyday.

Uncle Alex will be missed dearly. His intelligence was incomparable, and he was also a deeply compassionate man. Growing up he gave me valuable advice innumerable times, often offering good counterpoint which only made it that much more valuable. It is tragic Alex, his mother Alexandra and his brother Michael, my father, all passed within a year of each other and without being able to see each other face to face. I hooe they are all at peace now. When I am able I will try to find a photo or two from my archive to add to this.

Alex is of Ukrainian and Russian heritage.
But he was strongly against this unjust war perpetrated by Puttin.
I know that he would have been one of the first volunteers go from here to help the people of Ukraine.

In loving memory of Alexander, a very special friend and mentor who touched my life in more ways than he ever knew. I know you will miss him deeply and I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. May he rest in God's eternal peace.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to share this tribute to him. I was devastated to learn of Alexander’s passing and had always held on to the hope that we would still get to meet again one day. It has literally been 30 years since I’d seen him! Without everything that I learned from Alexander, I would not be able to face the demands and challenges of life today. He was intelligent and witty, caring, adventurous, funny, practical, loyal, passionate about his convictions, and always willing to give support or lend a hand. His memory will forever be larger than life!
