Bailey was larger than life, and he was my first mentor. I first met Bailey and Taz when I was eight years old, after my family joined Noe Pond Club as charter members. It was a magical place for “fellas and gals” as Bailey called the kids who learned how to swim, skate and play tennis there, and some of my happiest memories are of our powerhouse swim team. Like many of my teammates, I went on to work for Bailey as a lifeguard at Clover Hill and Copper Springs. He was a tough taskmaster but he always had a delightful sense of humor and he taught me a great deal about the real world. When I went to Princeton (thanks to a big assist from Bailey) I got to know him even better, and it was always special when our paths crossed from time to time over the years. Bailey was a unique individual who made a tremendous contribution to the Township of Chatham, and he will be irreplaceable.
