Bill knew Neil from the OSU Electroscience Lab before he and Peggy were married and with his quick thinking saved the day when Peggy's engagement ring mysteriously went missing one day. We enjoyed the parties at their King Avenue apartment. Charades was always on the agenda and Halloween called for costumes. Peggy loved singing and dancing in Vaud-Villlities, the local annual musical production. Peggy and Neil never forgot their OSU friends. They celebrated anniversaries in Columbus and would arrange breakfast get-togethers whenever they passed through. Sometimes they stayed at our house and the "old gang" got together. Whatever it was, Peggy enlivened the occasion. She never drank; she just bubbled from within. The picture is at Kavages near Sunbury, OH about 1976. I'm Jennie Kavage holding Rebecca. Our older daughter Sarah is left front and Bill must be manning the camera.

Unfortunately, all of our pictures are in storage so we have none to share of our many wonderful visits with Peggy and Neil. We will share this quick story of having brunch with them. As we were eating our omelets, most of us where over half done with our food and Peggy had hardly had a few bites as she entertained us with stories and conversation. I suggested to Peggy that she eat before her food got cold. Neil then quipped that “she hasn’t had a warm meal in her life”. Which we all had a good laugh over but launched Peggy into tell the origins of that story for another five minutes before she began eating again. The usual fun with Peggy! So may all your meals stay warm in heaven. We love you and miss you dearly!

I enjoyed Peggy’s indomitable spirit and irrepressible love of life. She never seemed to let things get her down. Throughout her difficulties caring for Neil, and then with her own terminal diagnosis, she always remained upbeat. She amazed me with her energy. Even in her eighties, she would think nothing of driving cross country to visit her family. She and I and the rest of my family were related in some way that I could never quite figure out, although she could explain it with her remarkable gift of gab if given enough time. She and my mother, Ruth Dornback Shie, were some type of cousins I think. My earliest memories of her were going to the home of Jim Davis (her father, I think) in Mentor to help him rake leaves. Then, she was a square dance caller at my fifth grade birthday party. Over the years we’ve shared visits with one another, email communications, and trips to see the Indians (now Guardians) play the Yankees or Mets together. She was a big baseball fan. I will miss her.
