Obituary of Mary M. Kilcoyne
Mary Margaret “Peggy” Kilcoyne, a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 86.
Peggy is survived by her four children, James A. Kilcoyne (Juliane) of Charlotte, NC, Brendan J. Kilcoyne (companion Justine Evans) of Brooklyn, NY, Courtney Madden (Tim) of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Kathleen Kilcoyne Gould (Shawn) of Franklin, NJ; and her seven cherished grandchildren, Victoria, Curtis, Tyler, Amanda Madden and Patrick, Finnegan, and Sullivan Kilcoyne; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil R. Kilcoyne; her daughter, Mallory C. Kilcoyne; and her sister, Nancy Davis.
Peggy was born in Ravenna, Ohio on May 20th, 1937. She was raised in Mantua, Ohio and later attended The Ohio State University “Go Buckeyes!”, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Peggy would then go on to become a writer for the Ohio Farmer Magazine, work in publishing, and later became a public-school teacher in New Jersey.
Peggy had a giving heart. She was an active member of the Thursday Morning Club at the Madison Community House and she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She loved being amongst her friends, with whom she would play bridge, bingo and bunko. In earlier years, Peggy enjoyed calling square dances, performing at community theaters, playing guitar and singing. She was also a talented seamstress and costume designer.
Peggy had a deep love for her family. She will always be remembered in the hearts of all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a memorial visitation in Peggy’s memory from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12th, 2023 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. during the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Peggy’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
