By William Mao Unreplaceable Sister Although she has left us forever, I somehow feel my sister Lily is still with us. I thought that I could still give her a call anytime like before. My parents both received a higher than college level of education. All of us children have been taught not to stop learning, to work hard, to help others and be a good citizen. Lily was a girl born with the qualities that parents wish their children to have, such as being responsible, honest, diligent, steady, quiet, happy and nondemanding. I cannot remember that she ever asked our parents to get anything specially for herself. She was not interested in beautiful dresses, jewelry, makeup and other things that some of the rich girls like. What gave her happiness was to see other people happy and to see things going well for the people she love. I can tell you about two events Lily did for the family. First, she gave all her salaries in Hong Kong and all the salaries at early time in Taiwan to my mother to support the family. To do that she gave up the opportunity to complete her college education. Second, she took care of our parents in their final years. They lived in Lily's house and Lily took care of their life day and night. It takes a lot of time, patience and companion. Our parents both lived to the age of 90s. When there were problems, she stays calm and tries to solve the problems by herself first without bothering others. I cannot forget her smiles when we met and can talk face to face, I noticed that there was often a smile on her face. The face showed optimism, worry free and full of love. Since she and I were both over 90 years of age and were hard to get around, we stay in touch by phone calls. In recent years at the end of our phone calls, she always says “LOVE YOU”. Lily, you were such a wonderful sister, how could we forget you and we will keep loving you as long as we live.

In loving memory we hold, A soul of warmth, so sweet, yet so bold. A mom, a grandma, an angel fair, Whose kindness showed us all she cared. Her story echoes that of many before, Women who fought, seeking knowledge shore. In the face of adversity, they stood tall, Breaking barriers, to inspire us all. With gentle hands and knitted grace, She stitched together love's embrace. A throw, she made with her own art, To warm my feet, and always my heart. Her sweet tooth's delight, a gaze, A bag of kisses, so set ablaze. With joyful laughter, she savored each day, In life's sweetness, she found her way. In memories cherished, she'll forever reside, A lady’s grace, that will never subside. For though she's gone, her spirit's strong, In our hearts, her melody lives on.
