Obituary of Gerard C. Miley

Gerard C Miley, of Madison, passed in his sleep March 17, 2024 at 64. He was born in Stretford, Manchester UK, a stones throw from Old Trafford, home of Manchester United Football Club. Naturally, he spent his life religiously devoted to supporting the one true Manchester club, Manchester City.

Uninterested in the rigidity of formal education he joined the workforce straight out of high school. He started with Standard Chartered Bank, where he met his beloved wife, Alison. Despite his obvious attraction, he maintained a professional relationship at work even refusing to vote for Alison in a contest to elect the "best bum" in the office.

When their affection could no longer be contained, they married in 1983 and had two beautiful children, Alexandra who married Thomas Kirk and James who married Mackie Elwell.

His three grandchildren Oliver Kirk, Chloe Kirk and Jem Miley will remember him as their Poppa.

He climbed the ranks through Standard Chartered which eventually brought him the opportunity to move his family to the US.  The family fell in love with America and when his contract was up, he sought new employment at Oracle to continue living the American dream.

Immediately, Oracle moved the family to the Netherlands, where they spent a year enjoying the poffertjes, frikandel and seaside. Upon his return to the States, he joined Deloitte where he would ultimately finish his career as a partner.

He was as passionate arguing the minutiae of financial strategy as he was capable of recalling major and minor historical events and trivial facts.

He was an avid reader and lover of fun, traits that would lead to hosting The Firkin Pub quiz fundraiser for The Chatham Emergency Squad annually for many years.

As a former rugby player, he loved to cheer on James and team at Marist College as an unofficial manager/benefactor.

He made his dream of living at the beach a reality when he purchased “Blue Moon” in Cape May. A house full of family memories, laughter, holidays and giggles.

He will be fondly remembered for his good nature, warmth, bear hugs and quick wit.
